Columbia Icefields

It was quite the experience as we trekked the long road up to the toe of the columbia icefield. The glacier has receded dramatically in the last 50 years. Ty was unsure of the whole thing. At the base of the glacier it is very windy and on in one area closer to the picture where the ice is blue...the air is warm and in all the other areas you can feel the extreme cold. You can see why they don't allow you to walk on it without supervision. We did see a group of people who were allowed to walk on the glacier about half way up...It looked quite dangerous as they were all fitted with boots with ice picks under them and ice pick poles.
